[가오슝 디저트]한국에는 없는 콜드스톤 아이스크림(Cold Stone Creamery)

한국에 과거에 있었다가 매장 철수로 영원히 사라진 콜드스톤 아이스크림을 대만 가오슝에서는 맛볼 수 있다. 한국에서는 이화여대 부근, 강남역 부근에 있었다가 매장을 다 철수해 버렸다. 

 

개인적으로 좋아한 아이스크림이었는데 철수하여 너무 아쉬웠고,

 

여행지인 가오슝에 콜드스톤 아이스크림이 있다는 정보를 입수하여 직접 방문해 보았다. 

 

콜드스톤 아이스크림이 있는 위치는? 

 

대만 가오슝 한신아레나 쇼핑플라자 지하 1층에 있다.

 

한신아레나 쇼핑플라자는 가오슝 지하철 레드라인선에 위치한 쥐단역

 

(구글 지도상으로는 쥐단역으로 적혀있다)에서 내려서 5번 출구로 나간 뒤 4분 정도 직진으로 걸으면 나온다.

 

맛집으로 매우 유명한 딘타이펑 음식점도 한신아레나 지하 1층에 있는데 그 주변에 콜드스톤 아이스크림 매장이 있다. 

 

딘타이펑 음식점에서 음식을 먹고, 바로 주변이라 아이스크림을 디저트로 먹기에 편리하다.

 

단 딘타이펑 음식점은 너무 인기가 많아서 주말 피크타임에 가면 사실상 1시간 반~2시간 대기시간이 있다. 

 

주말에는 인기 없는 시간대에 가도 약 1시간 이상 대기가 있다고 보면 된다. 

 

주말에 아무 생각 없이 딘타이펑 음식점을 갔다가 대기표 2시간짜리를 받았다. 배가 당장 고픈데 2시간을 기다릴 수가 없어서 나는 딘타이펑 식사는 포기하고 콜드스톤 아이스크림만 먹었다. 

 

딘타이펑 음식점의 대기시간을 줄이려면 평일 사람 한가한 시간에 가거나, 

 

점심식사를 다른 곳에서 하고 오후 늦게 가서 딘타이펑 음식점 대기표를 미리 받은 뒤(오후 늦게는 대기시간이 적어진다) 콜드스톤 등 디저트를 먹는 방법이 있다. 그리고  한신아레나 쇼핑을 1시간 정도 한 뒤 딘타이펑 음식을 먹는 것도 괜찮은 방법인 것 같다. 

 

내가 다시 가오슝을 여행한다면 시간 효율을 위해 그렇게 계획을 짤 것 같다.

콜드스톤 아이스크림 가격 정보

 

다양한 종류의 아이스크림을 팔고 있는데 작은 사이즈는 140 대만달러, 중간 사이즈는 190 대만달러, 큰 사이즈는 240 대만달러다.

 

와플을 추가하면 25 대만달러 비용을 더 지불해야 하고, 초코 와플은 35 대만달러, 딸기 와플은 35 대만달러를 내야 한다.

 

토핑도 원하는 토핑으로 마음대로 추가할 수 있다.

나는 마차아이스크림베이스에 구운 아몬드 토핑을 추가해서 먹었다.

가오슝 콜드스톤 아이스크림과 괌 아이스크림 비교 

 

가오슝 콜드스톤 아이스크림은 엄청 맛있었다. 과거에 한국에서 먹었던 콜드스톤 아이스크림과는 동일한 맛이었다.

 

참고로 괌에 여행 가서도 콜드스톤 아이스크림 매장을 발견하여 먹어 본 적이 있는데 괌의 콜드스톤 아이스크림은 완전히 다른 맛이다. 아이스크림 베이스가 약간 분유 맛이 난다고 해야 하나, 그 현지인 입맛에 맞게 조정되어 판매하는 것 같다.

In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, you can enjoy Cold Stone Ice Cream, a brand that once existed in South Korea but does not exist anymore for now due to store closures. In Korea, it was located near Ewha Womans University and Gangnam Station, but all of its stores were closed. 



It was my personal favorite ice cream and I was so sad.

I heard that there was a Cold Stone Ice Cream in Kaohsiung, where I was traveling, so I decided to check it out in person. 

 

Where is Cold Stone Ice Cream located?

It's on the basement floor of Hanshin Arena Shopping Plaza in Kaohsiung.



Hanshin Arena Shopping Plaza is located at Jiu Dan Station on the Kaohsiung Metro Red Line.



(also known as Jiu Dan Station on Google Maps) on the Kaohsiung Metro Red Line, take Exit 5 and walk straight for about 4 minutes.



The famous Din Tai Fung restaurant is also located in the basement of Hanshin Arena, and there is a Cold Stone Ice Cream shop nearby in the same floor.



It's convenient to eat at Din Tai Fung and have ice cream for dessert since it's right nearby.



However, Din Tai Fung is so popular that if you go during peak hours on weekends, there is practically an hour and a half to two-hour wait.



Even if you go during off-peak hours on weekends, you can expect to wait for about an hour or more.



I went to Din Tai Fung on the weekend without thinking and got a 2-hour waiting list.

 

I was very hungry and couldn't wait for 2 hours, so I gave up on Din Tai Fung and just ate Cold Stone Ice Cream.



To reduce the wait time at Din Tai Fung, go during off-peak hours on weekdays,

or Eat lunch elsewhere and go later in the afternoon to get a waitlist for Din Tai Fung in advance (the wait will be shorter later in the afternoon), and then eat Cold Stone or other desserts. Also, shopping at Hanshin Arena for an hour or so and then eating at Din Tai Fung seems like a good idea.



If I were to travel to Kaohsiung again, I would plan it that way for time efficiency.

 

Cold Stone Ice Cream pricing information

 

They have a variety of ice cream flavors, with a small scoop costing NT$140, a medium scoop costing NT$190, and a large scoop costing NT$240.

If you want to add a waffle, you'll have to pay an extra 25 NT dollars, while a chocolate waffle costs 35 NT dollars and a strawberry waffle costs 35 NT dollars.

 

Kaohsiung Cold Stone Ice Cream vs. Guam Ice Cream

I had the matcha ice cream base with roasted almond topping.
Kaohsiung Cold Stone Ice Creamery was very delicious. It tasted the same as the Cold Stone Ice Cream I've had in the past in Korea.

On a side note, I've also traveled to Guam and found a Cold Stone Ice Cream store and tried it, but the flavor is completely different. The ice cream base tastes a little bit like powdered milk, but I think it's adapted to the local taste.
